James Edward McLendon, age 92, passed away Friday, October 11, 2013, after a brief illness, at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton, Ga.

He was born on July 11, 1921, in Villa Rica, Georgia, the son of the late Henry McLendon Sr. and Cora Bailey McLendon. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Roy McLendon and brother and sister-in-law, Glenn and Carla McLendon; and his daughters, Patricia and Lila McLendon.

He was a farmer, part-time construction worker, was employed by Cannon Casket Company for many years, and when he retired he was an employee of Golden City Hosiery Mill in Villa Rica, Ga., where he was their truck driver for several years. After retirement he started a lawn care business and did this well into his 80s. He was a lifelong member of Pleasant Hill Methodist Church in Villa Rica, Ga.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Ludella Nalls McLendon; brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Erma Jo McLendon; sisters, Carrie McLendon and Sarah McLendon Reeves; sons and daughter-in-law, Junior and Sarah Walker McLendon, Richard McLendon; daughters, Diane and Darlene McLendon; grandchildren, Bradley (Margaret) McLester, Bregetta Vaughn McLester, Shaconda McLendon; three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church on October 18, 2013. Viewing will be Thursday, October 17, 2013, from 12:30 to 8 p.m. The wake will be from 7 to 8 p.m.

Interment will be in the Garden of Rest Cemetery in Villa Rica, Ga.
